The Kelly Plantation HOA Memorial Trees Program is being established in 2025 for member homeowners and their families interested in planting trees as living memorials or honorariums in the KPHOA common areas. KPHOA Memorial Trees Program is designed to aid in preserving fond memories of past family and friends, honor special individuals or groups, and enhance KPHOA green space.
The KPHOA Board, working with the HOA’s Landscape contractor will select, plant and individually maintain trees at designated areas in the common areas of the HOA. Requests for particular tree species and planting locations will be accommodated when possible but tree selection will be centered around the basic, arboricultural principle of planting the right tree in the right location.
KPHOA Memorial Trees can be identified by a small, yellow, plastic tag hanging on a lower branch. These tags display information about the tree itself and the individual or group for whom the tree is planted. Trees can be marked with metal tags or in-ground stones if supplied by the benefactor (and placed with approval from the KPHOA Board). In-ground markers are permissible but must receive Board approval prior to installation. Selection, installation and maintenance of markers other than standard, plastic tags are the responsibility of program participants.
To aid in tree-establishment, KPHOA Memorial Trees are planted during optimal planting weather which typically ranges from Fall through early Spring in northern Alabama. Requests received outside this planting window will be delayed until the following planting season. For individuals or groups interested in assisting with the actual planting of a tree, your participation is welcomed if schedules can be coordinated. Scheduling details can be talked through with the Board via email (kellyplantationhoaboard@gmail.com).
A one-time contribution of $275.00 is required to purchase and plant one, (+/- 6)' tall tree and when necessary, one replacement tree of equal size. This cost also covers basic identification tags and all required maintenance. This fee does not include the planting of the tree, that fee (of approximately $250) will be covered by the KPHOA as we continue to add to the tree replacement program in the neighborhood.
Upon receiving a completed request form and contribution, The Board will add the tree to the annual planting plan. The Board, working with the Landscape contractor, will select, purchase and plant the tree.
Pending weather and scheduling, trees are generally planted during the spring months of approximately February-April.
An acknowledgment of the planting will be mailed to the family of the deceased or to the individual being honored.
A KPHOA Memorial Trees Register will be compiled as trees are planted. The Register will list the names of individuals for which trees have been planted, tree locations, tree species, dates of plantings, and the names of the individuals or groups responsible for program contributions. This register will be kept here on this KPHOA website page.
All trees will be maintained by KPHOA volunteers after planting by the Landscape contractor.
